Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
If Luke’s preliminary narrative of Satan’s attempt to tempt Jesus Christ was condensed into bullet points and explored further using various questions, I believe some valuable wisdom could be discovered. Let’s take them in order. Jesus (was):
1. Filled with the Holy Spirit - Have we emptied ourselves and allowed the Holy Spirit to completely fill us? Have we properly prepared ourselves to receive the power and provision of the Holy Spirit? Do we believe and trust our Helper? Do we seek His peace? Are we ready mentally, physically, and especially spiritually to deal with Satan’s incredibly powerful, supernatural forces? In other words, have we put on the full armor of God as stated in Ephesians 6.
