Proverbs 27:19 NKJV
As in water face reflects face,
So a man’s heart reveals the man.
Our heart exposes the true essence of who we are. In other words, it sharply reveals our character. It’s interesting to note that the writer of Proverbs used an example, “as in water face reflects face” to express how the heart reveals the man. There seems to be one problem with his example when we observe it more closely. The face is an outside image and it looks upon the water and then naturally reflects the exact same face. So, the reflected face does not originally reside in the water. The face is not an internal characteristic or the essence of the water. Did the writer use this example haphazardly or because he lacked a better example. I don’t think so. I think he was very intentional.
As Christians, we are called to reveal God’s heart and not our own. In other words, our heart must be so transformed that His heart must reflect/reveal from us and be exposed for all the world to see. No longer will the world see our carnal heart. They will see a brand new heart. To use the words of Max Lucado, we must have “a heart like Jesus”.
But before this can happen we must be aware of at least three aspects of the heart according to scripture. They are: the wickedness of the heart, the warnings for the heart, and the wealth given to the heart. - JSS
