To even understand let alone practice unity we must look to our original source and example; the Trinity or the Triune God.
The Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit, as expressed in the previous passages, consist of certain strong attributes. The first attribute which seems obvious is that they are always present together. They never exist apart from one another. While they each have distinct roles, personalities and importance, their nature is never separated nor can it be. To put it another way, they are the sum of their parts. Also, each person in the Trinity reinforces their unified presence both verbally and physically (ie: “You are My beloved Son…”, And the Holy Spirit descended…, three that bear witness, “I and the Father are one.”). God’s Word seems very intentional in constructing our minds to think in threes, especially when we focus on each one individually. - JSS
